Wondering if people really do refer to these kinds of stories as portal fantasies instead of isekai in non-weeb spaces. The book only uses portal fantasy, but it did just mention the truck-kun trope by name, so it is coming from a place of weebery. So why not isekai?

Love picking up a comic book right in the middle of a story era you aren’t familiar with and trying to figure out who’s supposed to be dead at this point in the continuity. “Professor X is dead”, well don’t worry, he’ll be back in a year or two.

Figured out what I dislike about the writing so much. Every description is a simile. Every noise is like some animal. Every gaze is the prick of a needle, or a nettle, or some such prodding device. Like. As. Such.

Yeah, not super sold on the inclusion of fae in a Robin Hood story. Also, so not charmed by our Robin here either. I’ve admittedly only just met him, but he’s coming off as less of a plucky trickster and more of an “alpha male” type. I’ve yet to be sold on the necessity of this being a Robin Hood retelling at all.

I think what scared me off the book at the beginning was the fact that the first chapter was written from Harker’s POV. His perspective is a bit overwrought for me. Bless his soul, but I think he has female hysteria or something.

Okay, the last few chapters have been a lot better, so perhaps I judged too quickly and the book was simply cursed with a rough start. We’ll see.

Now that was a clunky first chapter. I’m not looking forward to reading this, but I made the mistake of opening the book in my kindle app, and now it’s on my currently reading list. That means I have an obligation to see it through to the end. Won’t even have an audiobook to ease this along 🙂
