I'm only a few pages in, but this may be a book after my own heart. Anything with reading and ancient hidden secrets is automatic love. Add in lush poetic language and you have a winner.

I do like that the hero and heroine get their shit together seperately before getting back together.

Sooooo the heroine's brother is bleeding out of his head and one of the babies she looks after is dying, but the hero manages to make her desire for escapism sex aaaaaaaallllll about himself. Good job dude.

Oh well, the mistress/prostitute was going behind his back and seeing other clients, so clearly the whore deserved to die. I'm glad we got THAT cleared up /sarcasm

Is it a heat-seeking missile? An invading army?

OMG HE'S NEVER LOVED ANYONE OMG SO TORTURED. Soooo the hero is searching for his mistress's killer on a lark? Yeah, hon, I think he's lying to you. His mistress should literally be named "Plot Wheel"

And then the obligatory "hero yells at heroine because another man attempted to rape her, how dare she?" scene. And then they make out. WTF?

Oh look, its the obligatory "hero saves heroine from dastardly rapist in a dark alley" scene. Honestly, a "hero shows he understands rape culture" scene would be a sexier option and a nice change of pace.

He wore a linen shirt, unbuttoned, fine lace framing the bare olive skin of his chest. His breeches were black velvet, and he finished his costume with polished jackboots that came to midthigh.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Soooo...first we have Lucius Malfoy and now we have Pirate Charles Brandon.

Dear Romance Authors, The hero shaking the heroine is not sexy, nor will it ever be. It's abusive. Please stop writing this.

This book is trying so hard to make me care about the boring sister with the stupid name, and I. Just. Don't.

This "touching causes me pain!" trope of the hero's seems to turn itself on and off again when convenient for the plot. Kissing is touching, guys. So is holding hands.

UUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGHHHHH. I really hope this is part of the heroine's repressed character that she eventually grows out of because that is awful. The other POV character doesn't dispute it though...

I love the names in this book: Lazarus, Winter, Godric. You know, the typical 18th-Century British male names.

Dear Lord, if the heroine acts any more martyrish, I'm going to declare her for sainthood.

Okay, Carlo's self-hatred and Charlotte's martyrdom are getting annoying.

I freaking love this book. I expected it to be a fun diversion, but it's so much deeper than that. Like a sexier, darker Austen.

Holy shit, the hero has gone full-on Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Comparing a character to a twelve-year-old before you reveal that she's pregnant is...an odd choice.
