no one told me this book was incredibly romantic and takes itself very seriously. two things i love. i call this the heterosexual sister of the priory of the orange tree. already obsessed.

can they take a second and explain what's going on. i don't think i like this laissez faire story telling method. mama tell me what these words mean. i beg.

i'm realizing that i adore portal fantasy books. they're based in realism as the protagonist is from our world, so the fantasy elements are very grounded. Thinking about my favorite books: Harry Potter (almost portal fantasy as HP is from our world and gets placed in a magical one), The Once and Future Queen, and 11/22/63. I'm grateful to know the genre name as now I can search for more of them.

the pacing and tone are amazing. this book takes itself very seriously, and that is a rarity these days. reads like classic fantasy and i miss that

I think the dual point of view is redundant. Ronan's POV adds literally nothing to the story. Authors really need to learn to resist the urge for Dual POV. Most stories do not require them. We don't need to hear the same thing twice.

hitting a lull. have to fight to finish this. too much chosen one activity going on. things are just coming to easy for violet for me to take this seriously.
