Which story is more riveting? Maisie/Moppie’s escape from her abusive home life before blowing off the help she received from Lewis and Moore? “Doc” Askins’ wild mental breakdown? The insufferable paying guest from France? Or Lewis’ own bizarre relationship with Janie Moore?

I know it goes without saying, but Lewis was a born writer. His journals read like short stories at times.

This book is wild. Every time I read an Ishiguro title, I can’t believe how different his books are from one another. I love him.

Gosh, that boarding school experience is horrifying. Even more so the knowledge that was apparently quite normal. 😳
