"Chained to the Land" is a book I purchased at the Whitney plantation bookstore. This book requires one to take their time and interpret not only what the formerly enslaved people are saying in their interviews but also the economic time in which they are being interviewed. It's a very poignant and informative read.

On page 107 of "The Upper Room". If I weren't reading it for my book club, I probably wouldn't finish it. So far, every character in the book is portrayed negatively. As I'm reading the book, I'm asking myself what message the author was trying to convey to the reader.
