somehow the first few pages are not remotely the craziest parts of the book

not a single sentence is less than perfectly written. beautiful writing.

having grown up with the movie, this book is just nostalgia bait and I LOVE IT. I LOVE IT SO MUCH. I remember every scene in such a vivid detail, the character is so endearing & i can hear irrfan's voice while reading. my heart is warm.

for the book itself, it is deeply philosophical (allegorical?) & the prose is some of the best i have seen (the bar is HIGH). i had high expectations and it is fully living up.

Reading this for class and of ALL the books I have read this year so far (or likely, will read) this might be my annual favourite

I notice a lot of british writers write like their readers automatically pick up on hyper local references (such as city geography, band or pop culture references etc). This bothered me in Andrew O'Hagan's Mayflies; Oisín McKenna's Evenings & Weekends (Irish but the book is set in London) and now this. This is much more tolerable on that front, though.
