Again I find myself glad my intro to Connelley was his later works with Haller & Ballard.

At this point I’m glad my exposure to Bosch was later in the series. The overt/inappropriate attraction to key women two books in a row is kinda bleh.

Enjoying the plot-related chapters, but Corey’s pretty meh at this point. Really don’t see a need for the relationship drama.

This… is really more heart-breaking than I was ready for, even knowing live triumphs in romcoms.

Twenty bucks says Nate & Robert are indeed “partners”. Really hoping Connelly isn’t making this so damn obvious.

I really hope this dynamic between Cindy and The Twins is real. It actually feels good reading this family dinner.

First impression of Prince Charming: What a dork.

And I love it!

Generally I’m not a mystery/legal thriller fan, but so far this one is an exception. Haller’s a fairly down-to-earth protagonist and the pacing doesn’t feel like molasses.

This is a perfect example of why it’s ridiculous to say a reader can’t relate to a character because age/gender/race/etc. Jake is learning so much the way I’ve learned over the years. Observe, read, cautiously cross lines. All from a baseline of virtually no knowledge or experience.

So I get that there’s a stylistic thing to keep in mind, but it’s been a real struggle to get into the book. Zara’s chapters however have finally hooked me, and I’d love to read a full story (without the Tolkein-esque ramblings) about her.
