Ending #3: The good ending

I successfully left the Radiant on my little stolen ship, and managed to keep my little mouse friend around! I think this is The Good Ending. It only took me three tries. Maybe there are multiple though!

Ending #2: Hitting the Slippy

I tried to convince the revolutionary sentinel that I was me by dancing. I was once again electrocuted.

Ending #1: zapped by maintenance drones while trying to enter the Network Maintenance door.

This seems like maybe it was intended to be a first ending. Time to go back to 88 to choose the other option.

Ok. Go on the tramway, find the little mouse, figure out how to open up the grav thingy so I can leave on the Fighter. I think the other “stowaway” arrived on this fancy little ship recently. Because he was well groomed.

I don’t trust the patronizing smile of the other stowaway.

Final stretch. I wish Mark was better at writing about his feelings. He’s remarkably chipper.

I think he’s going to have to discard his bedroom at some point.

I’m too sleepy to read this right now. Bummer that Mark is fucked again. He’ll figure it out though.

That was an eventful 100 pages. Unexpected problems and unexpected solutions. It’s gotta work though, right?

I didn’t expect him to make contact so soon!

They’re gonna take a satellite picture and see his tracks in a big circle around the hab lol

I was wondering how this story would go solely focusing on one solitary man. Now that we have Earth’s perspective, I’m more bought in!

The only thing i remember from watching the movie many years ago was the main character growing potatoes in soil made of his own poop. So far, my memory has served me well

I could probably finish tonight, but I need to go check on the chest.

Stratt is more like Lucretia than I realized. They didn’t mention the intentional amnesia in the movie (or I missed it). Both are women put into positions of leadership making deductions on behalf of the whole world to save it, and forcing their closest friends to forget that they disagreed with her methods. Wow

Assuming the flashbacks were getting are from Ryland remembering them, why has he not acknowledged or questioned (before we got the explosion flashback) why HE is on the Hail Mary? He remembered training the two science astronauts, he remembered not even considering volunteering. Rocky said that he and Grace were good people. But Grace didn’t volunteer.

The voidfish ☹️

Yay they figured it out! It wasn’t clear in the movie that the astrophange was FROM Adrian. Or at least, I didn’t catch that. And the whole idea that ALL life in the galaxy came from one place wasn’t clear either. They certainly had to leave things out in the movie.

It’s so wonderful seeing this story be interpreted into this format. I wonder what Wurli will think of the ending.

I wonder how much of this book Wurli actually understood. He read it so fast, I wonder how well he comprehends the books he reads.

I’ve understood much of the science described in this book so far, but the stuff about radiation and neutrinos went a little over my head.

Rockyy

In this version, Grace successfully catches both messages from the alien ship. I looked up the star that the Eridians are from, it’s either a red main sequence star or a white dwarf. I wonder if that comes into play in this story.

This book is so good. I wonder how Grace being sent on the mission differs from the movie. In the book, there’s the aspect of the coma resistant gene, which he must have. In the movie, they didn’t address this, to my memory. And in the book, he seems to have a lot of training on the Hail Mary specifically. I don’t think he had time for that in the movie, right?
