Yay they figured it out! It wasn’t clear in the movie that the astrophange was FROM Adrian. Or at least, I didn’t catch that. And the whole idea that ALL life in the galaxy came from one place wasn’t clear either. They certainly had to leave things out in the movie.

It’s so wonderful seeing this story be interpreted into this format. I wonder what Wurli will think of the ending.

I wonder how much of this book Wurli actually understood. He read it so fast, I wonder how well he comprehends the books he reads.

I’ve understood much of the science described in this book so far, but the stuff about radiation and neutrinos went a little over my head.

In this version, Grace successfully catches both messages from the alien ship. I looked up the star that the Eridians are from, it’s either a red main sequence star or a white dwarf. I wonder if that comes into play in this story.

This book is so good. I wonder how Grace being sent on the mission differs from the movie. In the book, there’s the aspect of the coma resistant gene, which he must have. In the movie, they didn’t address this, to my memory. And in the book, he seems to have a lot of training on the Hail Mary specifically. I don’t think he had time for that in the movie, right?

Knowing generally where this story is going is making me much more emotional about it all. I keep almost tearing up at the smallest things. I really love Grace as a character. He is so good and so smart. I love all the sciencey stuff. I love sci-fi that uses a lot of real sci which I can compare to my own knowledge bank from astronomy class.

Lighter and more humorous narration than I expected. Although I watched the movie recently and know the general plot, I’m really excited to read the book. Let’s go aroace main character headcanon.

Ok I didn’t see it coming, but jasper and I recognized many of the pieces. The finger print, the emphasis on Adela’s face weirdness. A lot just happened and I’m confused. One more chapter to go.

I’ve completely forgotten to update my progress the last number of times I’ve read. After quite a slow burn, we’ve finally arrived at our main characters discovering each other’s mutual feelings. But these small covert hints of what is about to happen to separate Gore from our narrator is very curious.

Ok well maybe she wasn’t being dumb about Quentin. Just seemed like she was. I think that she and Margaret should kiss and Arthur and Graham should kiss.

Maybe it’s because it’s late and my reading comprehension isn’t as sharp right now, but I’m feeling a bit lost. Like the book is expecting me to fill in certain blanks and there’s just too many of them to fully understand what’s happening. But not enough for me to be utterly confused. The main character feels a bit unknowable.

Things are starting to get strange. Which I am into. The ministry is definitely doing some fucked up shit. We have a lesbian character and mention of homosexual behaviors, happy pride month.

I’m falling a bit behind on our reading schedule. I’ll have to read 50 pages tomorrow. I think that our main character should have a crush on the other Bridge, Simellia. And I think Gore and the other expat who he went out with should be together. Make it all gay! It’s pride month!

So Graham should have known that his crew died. But he forgot. I wonder how the expats from even further back in time are doing.

For some reason I thought this would be much more sci-fi-y. I didn’t notice in the summary and in the blurbs on the back that this is a romance story. I hope there’s more to it than that. Straight romance is just kinda cringe to me unless done really well. I like the writing, there have been many words I’d never heard before and had to look up

I thought I might finish tonight, but I’m getting too sleepy. Many of the questions have finally been answered. Troy ran away from his problems in Night Vale and infected King City with his weirdness. If he leaves, everything will go back to normal there, and everything will go back to the usual strangeness in Night Vale.

Didn’t expect Jackie to be related to Troy too! I hope she and Josh get to become siblings. It was also really interesting to hear about Jackie’s life from her mom’s perspective. I hope she and Diane get to King City.

“As long as you have some control over your situation, there’s no need to cry, only to take action.” Not a bad way to think about things.

I’m glad that Diane and Jackie are working together now. Even friends, maybe. Josh is gone, probably looking for his father, maybe going to King City.

Josh must be the one who “Evan” is trying to reach. Is Troy Evan? How is Josh the way he is? And how is his father so many people? Who have apparently been around for a really long time. But so has Jackie, right? It said she had been the owner of the pawn shop for centuries maybe. Many, many questions.

So far all of the strangeness has seemed to pose no threat to our characters. Despite it, they all seem to go about their days as if everything is normal. Until now. The librarians were very genuinely scary. I could almost put myself in Diane’s place and imagine how afraid she was. This feels like the first real thing that’s happened in this book.

There are many questions being asked now and I have no idea how they’ll be resolved. Very mysterious. Very strange. Is Troy the person who needs the KING CITY note? How are they all connected??

Still very strange and silly. I’m wondering if Evan is the man who gave Jackie the KING CITY note.

Interesting so far but SO strange and quirky it almost feels excessive. I’m curious to see what kind of story actually happens. Curious about “KING CITY.”

This part reminds me of Ishmael. Hard to focus on it.
