The prose is repetitive in a way that is *almost* poetic but it still comes across as slightly shallow. Some lines are really striking others ring empty.

The book jacket summary sounded a bit trite so I was nervous but I'm enjoying so far. Sensing some Octavia butler influence which is always a good sign. One of those fantasy where the world building involves a vocabulary list which can be grating but that is just personal taste
