I just got to the chapter where Simone Weil spoke vociferously against intervening in Hitler’s expanding military encroachment because she was a rabid pacifist and thought he would stop before things went too far. It was a stance she anguished over for the rest of her life. For some reason, this seems like an appropriate thing to contemplate right now.
