Okay gonna start being on the reading grind again. And what better book to start with. Saw that my local bookstore had this book and the blurb drew me in. Finished the first chapter and and man what an intriguing first chapter!! I am hooked. I also love the authors style so far

The weather and sea surface temps are so connected it’s insanee. And the Brits imported bird shit cause they wanted that good fertilizer lol. To add to the connected part I share this, “ The patterns that influence civilizations are often a consequence of patterns that the ocean engine generates” and shoutout to those early scientists studying saltwater. Boo to the US that passed the Guano Islnds act. Smh

Really starting to get into the science of it all. I’m obsessedddd with the authors use of imagery, for reference she referred to stars as “wanderers” in the night sky. I also learned a dece amount shoutout to those Hawai’i engineers and I learned that upwelling is why there are pockets of cold and warm water, like when you’re walking in the beaches water

So far I’m really enjoying the authors use of imagery as she introduces herself in a canoe in the darkness. Although some of the language is a bit science-y I’m able to still comprehend the text. A quote that I liked was, “To look more deeply at the ocean is also to look more closely at our own identity, and what it means to be a citizen of an ocean planet.”
