Excellent study of early American history and the influence of Christianity.
Answers the claims that the Founders were Deists.

First three chapters are great. Currently reading the section by historian Jack Greene, and it is good, but really slow reading. He writes the longest sentences of any historian I can recall.

Each night I am enjoying a chapter or two out of this short biography of Hamilton. I am amazed at how much Williams packs into such a short treatment of the man.
Hamilton's story is the epitome of the American myth of rising from rags to riches. Except we should note that his rise really occurred and it was the nation rather than personal wealth that drove the man.
Flawed at points, of course, but brilliant.

Almost all unfamiliar ground and yet very interesting material. My favorite chapter so far is the one about Dutch American novelist Arnold Mulder.

While not what we would call a "page turner," this is a very interesting look at a significant cultural group in American history. Today, I finished the chapter 3 which was about a black man who lived in Holland, Michigan. Through that man's life, Douma discusses the relationship and views of Dutch Americans toward race, slavery, and labor.

Austin Gentry is a young Christian and college graduate who has written a book to help other Christians about to begin college. Good discussion topics. Must reading for the college bound.

Reminds me of Francis Schaeffer's use of the term "true Truth." Truth is an issue and always will be. This book is a good Christian study of the current battle for truth.

Excellent writer. Got started in mid-May then got sidetracked from reading this. Now I am back in and going to the finish line.

The essays on this book are, in my opinion, read one at a time, slowly with a premium being put on enjoyment. A great feast for the soul and mind.

I am really enjoying this biographical and historical study of two key men whose actions in 1917 drastically changed the world for decades to come.

Funny and really helpful. I first discovered a copy of this book that I skipped over at a library sale. Then I found a somewhat worn copy and snatched it up. A real keeper.

If James Schall wrote it, I want to read it and enjoy the many facets of his thoughts.

Kirk was not a lightweight and neither is his biography. This is a fine account of the roots of the conservative movement. In this time, we need to be going back to the roots of what conservatism is.

This book is a slow-going study for me, but it is worth the time and effort. Even the footnotes are wonderful.

I am really struggling to follow the story in this book. I will likely finish it today, and a rereading may unveil a totally different experience, but this has not been an enjoyable read for me. Perhaps it is because this book is outside of my more typical genre-zones. Science fiction and fantasy are not my usual fare.

Rewarding reading, but not easy reading.

Heart probing study for church leaders. Even though I no longer am in a church office, I am finding this book useful.
