Dane actually really confuses me: At first being a dragon master is a loose title as they are more of a brotherhood. Dane didn’t seem to care about being dragon master. BUT despite being “chill” he doesn’t let his brother get married because of politics? We got the impression that Dane having that marriage alliance was the first time he had to act like a king.

Drake is confusing: him being responsible for the execution of his brother is stupid and petty. He suddenly feels guilty for no reason. Rose is an a**hole for not telling him the truth. He will never be able to move on. The whole half-brother/sister thing is weird and falls flat to me. Why are we wasting time on these randos? And Drake losing everything seems to me another crisis with little emotional weight.

Also, not a patriarchy. No woman is contested for taking more masculine roles. Amari is the heir not Jerard. While not common there have been other women warriors who didn’t even need to disguise themselves.

The fem power stuff is getting tiring, I don’t know why men and women are always pitted against each other.

I would want to protect my loved ones, and a hero would protect an innocent. I understand the context but this is something that is beaten over the reader’s head with ALL female characters and ALL of them have to remind you how they don’t need men.

Finally got out of Godstown. But of course everything was solved through girl power and the entire village’s core beliefs just does a whole 180. Quill & Rondo are much better. Much more reminiscent of book 1.

I’m starting to get a bad feeling.
