Okay, Fitz, so now you’re going to terrify Molly by intentionally making it very clear you’re meddling with the lock on the door? Does this fool not know how creepy this comes off as? How did he become MORE childish since the last book when he was like 13? How did EVERY character regress so much??

I know this happened a couple of pages ago, but I still can’t believe that King Shrewd completely overlooked Regal’s treachery. I mean, Prince Regal murdered a foreign king, attempted to take their leadership to contest his father’s. But it’s all chill because King Shrewd said that he apologized!? I’m sorry King Shrewd, more like a BLIND SHREW (I’m sorry). But seriously, how did he get so dumb??

So, after Henry realized the wish worked he took advantage of other people under the spell. Understanding that they see somebody completely else when looking at him. And his response is: “Who cares? I deserve it.” All because he is “sincere, sensitive, and thoughtful.” As he puts it. I understand that he remedied his mistake, but the entitlement is annoying. He’s pushing me more and more on team Luc lol.

Addie is so judgmental. Like every woman’s life is miserable because they don’t have her version of freedom. I get it, it’s not Addie’s choice. But any woman who has a child is nothing but a “wilted flower” to her. And every man is something to be chained to unless it’s a forgetful night of meaningless sex.

Personally, I don’t like what is being done with Verity’s character. He was supposed to be the competent, trained soldier’s man who doesn’t have the suave to be a leader. But now he isn’t even a good commander of his troops and a complete dunce who can’t do anything at all, and has to be one-upped by his Queen-in-waiting. His character is just annoying, constantly complaining and never acting!

I swear Im not going crazy. It feels like there is so much unnecessary repetition. Word for word on page 134:

“It wasn’t the shock of having been close to death. It was the shock of realizing she actually wanted to live.”

Page 139:

“The shock hadn’t been that she’d thought she’d been about to die…No, the shock was that she felt like she was about to live.”

“Maybe it wasn’t the lack of achievements that had made her and her brother’s parents unhappy, maybe it was the expectation to achieve in the first place.”

I kind of feel like that general philosophy of Haig is to be a nihilist. To accept that everything is bad, and always will be bad. That we have no control. Ever. Because we’re motes of dust and blah blah blah…
