nick is a relatable narrator to the highest degree. the way he feels awkward then latches onto the one person he knows at the party… also when gatsby introduces himself what a drama queen. and nick acts like his smile is everything that has ever been good in the world ok gays!

“every night, still, i say his name and ask god for mercy. whether i believe in god isn’t really relevant. i do believe, however tenuously, in mercy.” yeah ok. yeah. the part where he recounts the kid’s facebook page and says he’s alive oh my god.

GODDDD humans, man! john green just gets it. seeing the handprint of a person that lived 17,000 years ago would change my life, but i’m glad i can’t see it. i’m glad we chose humanity over greed, it’s easy to forget that we still can pick the former.

wow just wow. def one of my new favorites. the tension rio creates truly feels shakespearean. the sudden obvious inevitability of james being richard’s murderer feels like something right out of macbeth, where we know the end result but not yet the preceding events. james’ transformation from the classically ‘good guy’ to this insidious, hiding in plain sight traitor is truly ominous. iwwv is unforgettable.

rio easily draws you into the tense world shared by oliver and his friends with the promise of drama. that promise is fulfilled, all the act ending scenes with richard had me audibly screaming, especially the recent one with richard in the lake. the characters are lively and distinct, the world is rich, every scene tinged with intrigue and drama. can’t wait to read the rest

very secret history, pretentious college kids quoting shakespeare and speaking latin. like the dynamics set up, especially the sort of power balance between the group (the talent of kingly richard and emotional james as opposed to oliver)

i love this book so far! the mystery is interesting, and the plot twist with noah as is well. i’m not sure if i like the twist yet or how it fits in, but i did feel a peculiar sense of grief for noah even though he remains in the story which is something really hard to accomplish. each character is three dimensional and fleshed out and i like and sympathize with all of them. they all have interesting motivations
