plath impeccably points out the distorted standards society imposed on women through the “married woman lawyer with children”’s article of chastity: that women were seen as submissive, unknowing and innocent objects that should be loyal as dogs to men and chastised if not

sagacious esther is definitely relatable in her adoration of literature, perseverence in academics and amusing impressions of society. her mental health issues are certainly apparent in the book so far, with her detrimentally hot baths and thoughts such as “the silence depressed me. it wasn’t the silence of silence. it was my own silence.” this book has been very entertaining thus far!!☺️
