Inspired by a recent visit to the WWI Memorial and Museum in Kansas City, I decided to crack open this little biographical work.

A little slower going than I expected, but I can already see why Sanderson has such a reputation in the genre.

Of course I'm going to enjoy a book that weds my real work (or industry) with my favorite fictional character. Just like most of the previous adventures of Sheriff Longmire, this one includes all the lovable characters and Craig Johnson's attention to detail and humor. Good stuff so far.

"If you are thinking of becoming a Christian, I warn you, you are embarking on something which is going to take the whole of you, brains and all." Pg 78 (On prudence)

"God is not deceived by externals." Pg 79 (On temperance–in all things not just some abstension from alcohol)

Funny enough, I've never actually read this one all the way through nor his other most famous non-Narnia book, The Screwtape Letters. Hoping this time will be different.

I've often been fascinated by each of the five books that comprise the focus of this little text, especially Ruth and Esther. I hadn't understood that they were lumped together as "the five scrolls" and that each corresponds with a festival or celebration of sorts in the Hebrew calendar.

Inspecting these "garments," though not exhaustively, gives me a greater appreciation for how they fit in the canon of Scripture.

Getting a jump start on my 2024 reading list (thanks to a relative library of Christmas gifts) with this little offering from C.S. Lewis. I've not worked through many of his books, so I am thrilled to get a fresh taste.
