promising and interesting but not amazing so far. definitely prefer the 2008 timeline to the 2018 one though that one does have its own intrigue.

another thing: the modern references are a bit cringey. the dull boyfriend who loves fire emojis, really? what 26 y.o. man is trying to become an influencer via viral tiktok dances in 2025? and on that same note, why are we acting like 26 is such a juvenile age? youre young, sure, still figuring yourself out, but youre not a clueless child.

already irked by too much explaining. to paraphrase “carl is wearing a blue canvas shirt and blue jeans, an outfit my friends in nyc would wear, though they work in graphic design and tech startups. carl is wearing his carhartt pragmatically instead of as a fashion statement.” completely unnecessary 2nd sentence. i got that the 50 yr old small town handyman wasnt performatively wearing work clothes.

i am unreasonably exciting to be rereading this one for book club!!! one of the best YAs out there and honestly among my favorite books in general. rereading this 6 years later is hitting sooooo much harder. poor seth 💔 love that little guy

how could i not be interested in a book by the man that brought us such classics as “my ass is haunted by the gay unicorn colonel”, “interrobanged by my interrobang”, and, of course, “blown by this handsome sentient bubblegum who is also a successful landscape architect”.

on a more serious note, i love the unique concept & im excited to see where this goes!!
