Quite good! Surprised how much it covered in only 25 pages. Not sure how much else could be in the rest of the book besides how it impacted the rest of the nation or case studies, but I’m sure it’ll surprise me!

i get headaches after reading, but the book itself is pretty good

I have so much more respect for farmers now, and I hate that this profession is so stigmatized. The idea of farming being a less worthy profession than being a lawyer or a doctor is absurd. I think they put it best when they said you might only need a lawyer once or twice in life, and a doctor a couple of times a year. We need farmers every day.

this reads sometimes like a modern day iliad

One of my new favorite books of all time. I could rant about it for hours on end.

super interesting world that i still don’t know how to feel about completely. it’s not entirely moral, but it also works to an extent? i’m conflicted

i can already tell this book is going to be really trippy. the first few chapters already have left me with so many questions, but i guess a good book can do that in just the first few pages

i started a second book in one night. lord help me. this is a an extremely captivating book so far though. the history behind the zapatista movement is extraordinary, and i can’t wait to learn more about it from the perspectives of the very people who fought for such revolutionary change.

reads like the world literature short story book i have and not sure how to feel about it. i sense it will get better though based on how the second chapter ended

i loved the monster’s perspective and observations of human society. it’s made me realize how much i love “innocent” narrators who are simply trying to make sense of what can never be truly understood.

reading this book makes me so tired. i think it’s because of how well educated the narrator is which shows through his writing. it’s beautiful, but it can be dense at times. definitely a different vibe than i thought the book was going to be

i can empathize with this narrator so much. he views life so similarly to the way i do right now

not only do i love patroclus’ name, but i now love his character. he seems like one of the only humble men in this book. apparently he’s gay for achilles but i haven’t picked up on it yet 😳

this translation’s writing style is so flat and dry. sometimes it feels like reading the back of a cereal box would be more entertaining

my favorite today was “the father” by björnstjerne björnson. it was simple, but the message was quite clear and touching. it is often losing what we think are our biggest blessings which make us truly blessed

i’m going to start reading one or two of these stories a day. today’s was señor payroll, and i thought it was pretty humorous. it goes to show just how willing workers are to work despite all the hardships the system may place in the way of their labor.
