Leonora and Edwards marriage really makes me see how love cannot be the leading factor in marriage or it will fall apart. Partners need to be compatible in life aspects, such as financial mindsets, futures for their children and how they want to live and such. So many problems can arise when couples are not on the same page that it can in fact cause couples to drift apart, even with intense love.

Dowell's conclusions that "the passionate, the headstrong, and the too truthful are condemned to suicide and madness" while only the "normal, the virtuous, and the slightly deceitful" can flourish.

Dowell and Florence get married flashback, the beginning of a loveless dry marriage. Did this couple ever have sex?? The amount of rules on their marriage would have caused me to divorce like a week in...Florence was in love with Jimmy.

Also I swear on everything, Dowell is in love with Edward, baby boy just admit you in love.

Just finished Part 1! From what I personally understood this is Dowells diary where he observes and mansplains rich people back in the early 1900s in England. His wife is fucking his newfound friend and Dowell is in love with his friends wife, and does not like his own wife very much. The two wives come together to kill this woman that Edward seemed to have an affair with (he's not) and boom they besties! (Iamwrong!)

From what I understood from CH 1-7, the MC gets put in a situation where a couple wants to test out a cheating kink lol???????????? And then the lesson learned from this is to forget it and that he has lots of life to live and that he shouldn’t dwell too much on this.

Wondering if the format of this book will be made up of just situations he finds himself and the lessons offered at the end?

is it a male Japanese author thing to talk about women in such a odd sexualized way? in CH 2 when talking about the MC wife the only description we got was an overly sexual one……….. i guess this is not just a Haruki Murakami thing :/

I don't know how I am going to get through this book. I don't know why I thought I was a science fiction girly when I purchased this. I am listing to this in the form of an audio book, and I cannot pay attention and understand for the life of me. Please don't ask me anything that's going on in this book because truly I don't know.

This short story was decent, has potential. Why the main character just like me💋 something interesting to listen to but not interesting enough to remember unlike the first and previous chapter.

That Old Seaside Club

This possibly was my favorite short story out of all of them! The parents were gaslighting them kids so heavy its not even funny. Kinda shocking that they ended up not being humans in the end. One of the most interesting and actually shocking endings out of all of these short stories!

Stewards of a New Anxiety

eh this was good but couldve been better. loved the conversations on the alcoholic mother and conversations on interest and love. some interesting lines here and there. dont understand all these stories with random planets, whats the point?

You May Dream

Had a hard time enjoying this one, was a bit hard to follow the purpose of this chapter and what exactly was going on in this world and what the characters were getting at. But at the end I think i realized that was kind of the point. Could’ve been better, not too big of a fan of conversations and dialogue driving the plot.

Women and Women

very interesting read. very deep dystopian “a world without men” concept. really makes you think about how as annoying these men are and how we all wish they would just disappear, they are important in societies healthy day to day ecosystem to keep things going. i really enjoyed the beginning of this chapter where it discusses mens deep rooted fatal flaws with boredom and the need to create war.
