A bit confusing story structure

This was back in the olden days when someone said the manuscript could use some revision and the author would just chuck it into the fireplace and start again.

I just got to the part where the sister "dies" they see the monster headed man, and then the sister comes back and rants and raves about something that's going to come get them.

Very mentally taxing read, but the middle part is wayyyyy better than the first part of the book.

I just realized that I have read this book before and that I don't remember it because it reminded me so much of Ouran High school host club that the two merged in my mind.
Xander = Honey
Jameson = Karou + Tamaki
Grayson = Hikaru
Nash = Mori

Tell me someone else saw this.
