The mode of life and hunting is pretty enthralling, especially because I thought those would be the most boring aspects. The melting of the bullets and cooling of the gun between shots, the wisdom about cold or the movement of buffalo. Really makes you think about how much knowledge was lost from indigenous people about that land, how much was contained in daily habits.

Seems strange to me how limited it's perspective is so far on the revolution, it seems to brush off a lot of a lot of events. If the main character is in fact an ex revolutionary, I'd expect a greater or at least more nuanced understanding from his perspective?
