Might need to dnf this. The main character was only annoying and stupid to begin with, but now she's mad at Farah because Farah doesn't want to go to jail? Like if she didn't start acting guilty and insane, Farah would have been normal. Also main character is an asshole to everyone.

I'm almost halfway done with this, but I honestly don't know if I can finish it. Willa is the absolute worst--the epitome of racist misogynist boomer woman who refuses to engage with reality. And the other characters aren't better--but we spend less time with them. I normally finish everything out of spite but alas I'm mortal.

I'm close to finishing it so I will, but this is such a disappointment. Somehow it makes a mystery and a disappearance painfully boring

I hope this improves. The narrator has the I'm-a-30-yr-old-woman-but-am-written-like-a-middleschooler syndrome

I was really looking forward to this because I loved Middlesex, but good lord the rank unexamined misogyny of this makes it almost an dnf for me. I keep waiting for something to contextualize Mitchell's endless bullshit. The narrator pokes fun at the sexism, but it's the equivalent of a gentle chuck under the chin, rather than a critique of his entitlement. Also this is filled with "women written by men" descriptions

Caveat: I'm listening to the audiobook, which is a great argument for authors not being allowed to narrate their own work.
