It's actually sick that I was 5 years old in 2003, and not a hot queer actor with a dog living in Kitsilano with my cast mates and having what sounds like the funnest time ever. SICK!!!!!!

Oh no, I did the thing where I told my mom I was reading this book and she asked if it was good and I said yes and then it got really weird. Future self, read the whole book before recommending to Mum!! I love how she writes, but some of it is !?!?!

I have been eagerly waiting for this book to be mine (for 21 days). And I finally got ahold of it from the library, on my birthday! What a treat! I love it so far.

Wow.

I wish every child on earth could be safe, without shame or guilt.

People pleasing, God pleasing can be so deeply hurtful.

The dialogue in the Ella portions of the book are so crriinnnngeeee! And the author is not doing a good job of showing-not-telling about Ella being a lonely housewife. I love the Shams perspectives the most and I am intrigued about this leper and if he's going to infect Rumi! I am also interested to see how the relationship bw Shams and Rumi develops!!!

Growing can also feel like loss.

I am going to save the last little bit of this book for tomorrow. Following Jesse from boyhood to adulthood was a gift. His words invoke deep empathy. I don't know him, and yet I am so proud of him.

Swimming, One Day in August

It is time now, I said, for the deepening and quieting of the spirit among the flux of happenings. Something had pestered me so much I thought my heart would break. I mean, the mechanical part. I went down in the afternoon to the sea which held me, until I grew easy. About tomorrow, who knows anything. Except that it will be time, again, for the deepening and quieting of the spirit.
