Current Chapter: Chapter Four - “Out of the Wilderness”

I quite enjoyed the dissection of the character and observations of Ted Turner and the researchers investigating Depressive Realism and its inverse, positive illusions.

I didn’t mark the chapter for this note, but it is so nice to have many of the concepts of heredity, genetic disposition, and domestication so succinctly claimed and decisively explained. Notions of greater implications regarding the organization of common groups through a plethora of factors, including that of the presence of a common ancestor gives ample food for thought.

Current Chapter: Chapter One - “Sherman”

The author is certainly able to summarily discuss the lives of the figures in question, and he draws you in with quick, dynamic prose and applied references and quotations that substantiate his views of manic and depressive behaviors from Sherman himself. I am enjoying this thus far.

Current Chapter: Chapter NULL (Did not record)

I am fascinated by the posited inquiries by the book, primarily that of the notion that ones’ own ideas about critical thinking, and their reluctance to employ these techniques, can be tied to their fear of unfamiliarity.

Alright, so I wasn’t really understanding Holden very much as, though he is still very immature, mean, and hypocritical, he is also pretty funny, sardonic, and strangely relatable?

Of course, that is under the context of some of his internal monologue, but in reality, he seems like a pretty emotionally stunted individual, and I haven’t even gotten that far into the story yet.

God, there are so many twists and turns, and I love how, despite being so smart and precocious, they (Ron, Harry, and Hermione) are still kids and mess up a lot, which is how they got into their current debacle with McGonagall.

Current Chapter: Chapter Thirteen - “Nicholas Flamel”

I live for this ongoing mystery and the growing difficulties that Harry is facing, especially the continued (and understandable) fixation on his lack of familial support. Anyone would be vulnerable to the wish of belonging to something like a family.

You know, it’s interesting; just about every person in this book is judgmental and mean and smarmy. Is it because they’re ACTUALLY like this, or Holden is simply filtering their potentially benign behaviors through a filter of his own biases that is predicated on some intended and perceived antagonism? I’m not entirely sure.

I love the growing notions of conflict and social dynamics between George/Lennie, and the rest of the ranch. There is an undercurrent of acceptable cruelty born of the time period that makes me nervous for the clearly establishing conflict that is cropping up now.

I love the action and quite humorous commentary from Jordan, it’s all rather engaging; also, why does Snape hate Harry so much lol

God, I can see what Holden means. Ackley IS annoying, though, knowing Holden, I wonder if he’s quite as irritating as he paints him to be. He isn’t exactly the most reliable narrator.

Current Chapter: Chapter One - “What is Critical Thinking”

The value of critical thinking cannot be understated as it not only invalidated what may be implicit or reflexive biases, but substantiates proper thought and formed opinions, and that is worth dissecting on one’s own.

Current Chapter: Chapter One - “Effects of Habit”

Notable facts about the regression and expression of certain traits tied to the disuse and usage of abilities in nature, respectively, in the context of domestication is fascinating.

I enjoy the pure expression of factual knowledge and tentative speculation regarding the correlation of traits and heritability. It leaves room for thought and consideration.

The establishment of the main trio was nicely done and after so much tension between the three of them, it’s nice to see them reconcile at last.

They have a lot of near misses with teachers that feel terribly miraculous and convenient.😁

They’ve finally made it to the ranch, and it’s so neat seeing their very (Lennie, George, and even the Swamper’s) personalities.

With George’s cautious and clever actions, Lennie’s honest and endearing mimicries, and the Swamper’s droning tone, they all differ wildly from the boss who’s really…prickly.

I don’t see him being too friendly.
