Current Chapter: Chapter Three

God, I can see what Holden means. Ackley IS annoying, though, knowing Holden, I wonder if he’s quite as irritating as he paints him to be. He isn’t exactly the most reliable narrator.

The value of critical thinking cannot be understated as it not only invalidated what may be implicit or reflexive biases, but substantiates proper thought and formed opinions, and that is worth dissecting on one’s own.

The opulence of high society in the context of the story feels so obnoxious already. There’s an apparent sense of insecurity and, yet, misplaced superiority emanating from Tom is quite sickening and interesting all the same. The vapidness in quality being assumed by the quantity of things these people collect is worth mentioning, too.

Notable facts about the regression and expression of certain traits tied to the disuse and usage of abilities in nature, respectively, in the context of domestication is fascinating.

I enjoy the pure expression of factual knowledge and tentative speculation regarding the correlation of traits and heritability. It leaves room for thought and consideration.

Current Chapter: Chapter Eleven - “Quidditch”

The establishment of the main trio was nicely done and after so much tension between the three of them, it’s nice to see them reconcile at last.

They have a lot of near misses with teachers that feel terribly miraculous and convenient.😁

Current Chapter: Chapter Two

They’ve finally made it to the ranch, and it’s so neat seeing their very (Lennie, George, and even the Swamper’s) personalities.

With George’s cautious and clever actions, Lennie’s honest and endearing mimicries, and the Swamper’s droning tone, they all differ wildly from the boss who’s really…prickly.

I don’t see him being too friendly.

It’s really neat, seeing and understanding the internal structures of the CPU and how it connects and communicates with other preeminent devices such as the address bus, RAM, and Memory Controller Chip to direct the process of data securement and transference, and it’s all done rather (usually) seamlessly, too.

Apt points are made about personal flawed thinking patterns, especially those rooted in ecocentrism.

The coverage of basic perspectives and known fallacies present in illogical thought is engaging. The bulleted format is also easy enough to read.

Tom is first to speak, and immediately, his seeming virtue of apparent self-awareness of his privilege is undercut by the flippant discussion as said privilege as some intrinsic and immutable detail of his life. His ability to have studied, so carelessly as to have based it on what his contemporaries had chosen, bond business, is a marker of the resources he has.

The thought placed into the pacing and the growing comfort Harry during his life in Hogwarts is pleasant to see.

It feels so poignant, yet so apt and realistic, that people would make efforts to dismiss concerns about strange phenomena happening so far away whilst also explaining it away as simple geological phenomena. I love the concept of an apocalypse in progress but no one not only didn’t listen, but were intentionally dismissive.

The simplicity, and jointly, apparent complexity born of human thought will be a fascinating venture to embark upon. Much of the introduction has been taken singing the praises of, and positing questions to, the human brain and its strangeness.

In a lot of ways, I think Holden isn’t terribly unreasonable in the way that he thinks; he voices a lot of the internalized and less attractive thoughts that we all have for supposed authority figures, though his points of view are less than responsible or even particularly mature.

He recognizes enough that Spencer cares, but their “talk” felt horribly unproductive.

The introduction was nice and gave a very, VERY, brief overview of the contents of the book. I will still seek to define the terms used and keep them in mind, but further explanation in the context of the situations that they are attributed to would be lovely and aid in comprehension.

I love their relationship, George and Lennie. They do truly care for each other, and the shimmering touch of cheek and wit that Lennie shows, earnest and unintentional as his unfortunate difficulties are (notably that of his lack of self-awareness and immutable strength) adds to the tragedy of his character. George is much the same, and it is through love that he care for the former.

I understand well enough, I believe, that natural levels of variation, even when definite variability would be the logical state of affairs is mentioned, is present in population. The concept of indefinite variability, and the potential pigeon-holing of genetic variation due to poor reproductive success is fascinating so far.

Learning the differing standards and criteria for psychological analysis when referencing the progression of potential mental illness is neat, I like the adherence to strict, definitive statements that set the tone for the rest of the book.

There is a ton of specific terminology that I am pretty familiar with, but I will brush up on specific terms to make comprehension far more seamless. Ones like supersymmetry, branes, and the like are more theoretical in nature, but they’re familiar to me. Others are specifically part of doctrines such as quantum mechanics, and to the layman, I wonder how they’ll fair…

I love historical, epigenetic, and general deep-dives, and it is going into the origin of life developing from base chemical material; I will expand on my thoughts very soon.

There is a great density of information that must be investigated after this reading as clock speeds, external data buses, and RAM are important and equally complex.

I sense the tones of cynicism and hardly-concealed social comment burned in every line of text thus far. It feels very much as though a general expectation of the varying social and cultural expectations and habits of the martians and humans are being defined right now.

The, often, deliberate ignorance of man has been, and will continue, to be their downfall.

Current Chapter: Chapter One - “Variation Under Domestication”

I do enjoy the succinct, but in-depth, summation of the book’s research points and explanations. The generalization of the importance of genetic diversity, the rules of ecological development and specialization, and natural selection sets the stage for later interpretations of the text.

I am excited.

Already, a different character, and very evidently, a young one. I can see the earnest, if misplaced, insecurity in their very voice. The appeal of other’s appearances (noting that their neighborhood places little stock in their hair being cut), their envy of Paul Newman, it’s all the concerns of a young adolescent. I’m interested.

You know, it’s interesting. Holden has a hard time seeing that Spencer is upset because he cares, and Spencer, like many adults, resorts to berating and expressing their care through anger.

It is clear that Spencer is disappointed, though I can’t tell if it’s of his love of history or his concern regarding Holden’s lack of effort. Perhaps both.

I love the usage of imagery that has been shown so far. The tranquility, the ambience, born of the natural world, only to be disturbed by George and Lennie’s antics and sheer chaos, was a rather neat juxtaposition for the setting.

Lennie and George are interesting themselves as they are dysfunctional and all the more engaging for it.

Current Chapter: Chapter Zero - “Introduction: The Inverse Law of Sanity”

I haven’t really progressed far, but insight into Lombroso’s thoughts into sanity and genius intertwining is fascinating. I wonder how the author will substantiate their views and back their claims into this not-so-radical vision of leadership, intelligence, and genius.

Current Chapter: Chapter Ten - “Halloween”

The mystery continues, and more about this world is revealed. Very neat to see answers to the strings of strangeness being answered in time, and a great, three-headed Cerberus protects whatever is in that package. The interactions between characters is the driving force behind the progression of the story.

Really enjoying this so far.

Current Chapter: Chapter Nine - “The Midnight Duel”

I am really enjoying the progression of the story thus far. The intersecting points of interest: the Gringott’s vault heist (or the attempted one at least), Harry and Draco’s growing rivalry, Snape’s distinct loathing of Harry, and just looking at Hogwarts and how it operates…it’s all rather enthralling.

Current Chapter: Chapter Seven - “The Sorting Hat”

This is a kid’s dream! I can certainly see the appeal of such a new environment and the allure of magic and wonder. However, the undercurrent of danger is ever-present and hinted at throughout the text.
