While México and Perú share similarities in how Maoism influence grew in each country (ex: travel to china, propaganda access and distribution, etc.), a clear distinction is Perú, however dogmatic and poorly executed, attempted to interpret and apply Maoist ideology through an understanding of their own social and material conditions (Gonzalo thought).

I appreciated the historical breakdown and parallel comparisons. It's interesting to get an insight to Chapa and Medrano's logic and some of the errors made by using the Chinese Revolution as too literal of sample without considering structural differences between China and Mexico.

This was recommended to me after I asked for commie lit about Latin Am countries.
The intro lays out the author's intentions in using different cases in sample LA countries to showcase Maoist ideology and how it played out.
Really informative and quick summary of the Chinese revolution in chapter one. I'm excited to get through the next chapters since they are the case studies.

Very thought provoking. The author has put in the work to cite and reference. I will give a more detailed review once I’ve sat with my thoughts :)

im not going to applaud a fish for swimming, cause garrison was racist too but he did show (slow) character growth ig.. as Kendi prefaced the recurring theme really is “racist ideas created due to white ppl’s self-interest.”

as a non-disable person, i’ve still got so much to learn. more importantly, we should be listening to disabled peoples’ stories without judgement or preconceived biases. their voices should be at the center of these discussions.
