i’ve been reading TSH and i think it’s bc i came from the goldfinch, written 20 yrs later, that i find myself underwhelmed and disappointed. writing is gorgeous, still.

also last book mentions rilke which is my next read, and i js realized these letters are corresponding to an actual aspiring writer who wrote to him which is so cool

can i,,, cram five books in three days (without sacrificing enjoyment)???

honestly just been reading a shit ton of fanfic for days and i cannot cram five books this holiday. my excuse is to create more than i consume but i’ve??? browsed through 30+ pages of fic holy

i have finished yet another book after a while (days ago) and it’s my 20th and no i will not be logging it for emotional damages—while it’s about the author’s unusual niche experience i find that i’m the only one who embarrassingly relates to it so adding it would be equivalent to stripping myself naked and exposing my shame but it counts as my 20th book nonetheless

i’m just gonna put my review here; honestly had all the elements to be my five star read—parental trauma and war narratives, racial dilemmas, unexpected queer subtext, it was gripping and so very real and i cried a few times, especially since even though it is branded as a novel, all the facts and events from the story seem like the author’s entire truth. which made it all hit harder.

and do not get me wrong i LOVE fanfic but my pref for books is different

i was instantly hooked the first few pages, initially expecting more war than pining but after getting through 1/4 and finding out the author is a fanfic writer i just kind of suddenly lost immersion? some parts did feel fanfic-y and to think it’s bc the author IS. from this point it gets very very fanfic-y and juvenile
