First chapter sucks. Honestly.

The whole Apparat thing is weird and I don’t really understand why Alina is being controlled but like.. not controlled? by this dude.

I get it, they need to regroup and strategize and strengthen themselves to defeat the Darkling but why are they being suppressed by the Apparat?

This book is really great so far. It’s the second in a series and I haven’t read the first so some references are lost on me.

The author’s writing suits me very well! It has a sarcastic tone that’s not overbearing. It feels natural. Descriptions of Paris and other scenes are well written without being too flowery - which I have not lately cared for.

So far, so good. I found this one on a library shelf and it looked promising. It has a dull, negative tone to it but it makes the book different and aids it in standing out. The author writes beautifully, however, some sentences are so detailed I become lost in the descriptions of emotion and analogies.

The book is still going well! There haven’t been any more sex scenes so I’ve been able to continue reading. I think the second part of the book has a change of thought processing from our main character. She is more focused on what is best for her social standing rather than how to fit in. She now wants to be the best instead of blending with the rest.

This book is really captivating and I am thoroughly enjoying it. However, I’ve had to skip multiple chapter because of sex scenes or TMI sex talk. If this continues I’ll have to put it down.

A love this quote, “The surest way to create desire is to first establish denial.” I think that sums up this society of rich people and the poor lol.

The first chapter gives an introduction to family history and also the excitement filling everyone's stomachs. Wagons are put into formation as we are given a description of the bustle going on.

I have just finished reading the forward of The Covered Wagon and I must comment on the remorsefulness that the first few pages have brought upon my mood.

The author, Emerson Hough, wrote this book to bring the West, as he remembered it, back to life for readers to enjoy.

So far this book is quite enjoyable. The writing style is examplatory and rarely do I stumble across a book written like this. It is a classic, and I see why.
Dantes is a loveable character already and I'm curious to find out what the rest of the book has in store.
