There is a lot of Super Emo Angsty Angst and Too Stupid To Live in this book, so far.

It's taking me a while to get through this due to my hectic schedule of late, so I'm only a little ways in, but so far at least 2/3 of that has consisted of the protagonist whining about how much she likes Rain and how she wishes she could get Rain to like her and how it'll never happen and how she needs to get over Rain, and I'm just uuuuugh. Can something else start happening, now?

I am literally laughing with delight over how very BITTER Felicita is. YES. SO GOOD. THE BITTERNESS. GIVE ME MORE.

Four percent in and it's already shitty. Ugh. So glad I didn't buy this one. Thank you Kindle Unlimited. I can DNF completely guilt-free if this doesn't improve.

Oh my god, this Mary-Sue would be just as great at job interviews ("Oh, I suppose I tend to work TOO hard") as she is at everything else.

I don't know how much more of this I can take. I don't know why I bought this!! I should've run screaming at the first mention of children.

That's funny, 'cause most people didn't really have closets in bedrooms, back then. They typically used armoires or chests.

Can I just say... anytime someone describes a character as "pushing thirty" I have this reflexive eyeroll response I can't seem to shake. I like how 30 is apparently the threshold to grizzled middle-age, or something.

Oh my god, I can't. There's too much weird, vague racism and shit in this book.

Okay, so apparently Chloe is an impressionable, slightly racist ninny for believing any of the ridiculous stories about Ben.

I'm willing to forgive part of her fear due to her history with her ex husband, but still. Really??

I'm not sure why I put this on my reading list, knowing there's not only a kid, but a dog, too. And romance stories that involve dogs and kids are almost always far too saccharine to me, and the kids always feature way too largely in the story.

But here I am reading it anyway. I guess I'll try to stick it out, since I'm not HATING it so far. But the kid factors in more than the mom, at this point.

I'm having a hard time feeling invested in any of the characters, so far.

Okay, I can't. DNF. I am pretty disappointed; the premise of this book seemed enticing, but the execution is middle school at best. I really can't understand how it has such a high overall rating! Good thing it was Kindle Unlimited and not something I bought outright.

Barely started and I'm already having misgivings. The writing style is very plodding. Every sentence is the same length. There is no appreciable rhythm or nuance. It also feels more "tell" than "show." Do you see what I am doing here.

LOL wow. Well, that's a bit extreme, maybe. I am amused.

This book isn't really holding my attention very well. I got distracted by manga by two days and now that I'm back to reading it I keep clicking out of the kindle app and looking for something else to keep me occupied. Yet I'm curious to see where the book leads. So it's a weird almost-push/pull of attention. I want to know where it goes, but when I'm reading it I get easily distracted by other things.

Well. I saw it coming, but the whole time I hoped for something different.

Thoughts, in no particular order:
1) How is this Kindle Unlimited? It's amazing.
2) I'm going to buy this when I'm finished reading it.
3) I am so fucking invested in this entire thing and I am terrified about how it's going to end up.

Wow. This book is not enjoyable, so far. It's just stressful af.

Good book so far. Alternating perspectives, and timelines. There are a few irksome editing errors. I've come across "sow" used in place of "sew" at least twice.

Ryan knelt on one knee, bowing his head. “He looks good like that,” Gary murmured. “Right where he belongs.” I choked on my tongue. And spit. And air. And coughed quite loudly. It echoed around the stone throne room. Every single person in the room turned to look at me. “Sorry,” I said to everyone with a little wave. “Sorry. Bug flew in my mouth. Unavoidable. My bad. Please continue with the… knight. Thing.”
