Good approach in its selectiveness of the stories and eras to prioritise, and others to run over, however perhaps too many unnecessary names and places, and jumping around timelines can confuse the flow a bit.

Excellent book so far. Lewis has a beautiful way with words that adds history, elegance, and profoundness to the prose. The book is surprisingly dark, I can’t believe this was published in the 1950s, and feels very modern in its style. The book really gets going from the off. I have enjoyed the depth to the traditional myths about witches that Hilda adds, and how the devil can be tempting.
