I liked how it showed her struggle between choosing her family and her education. She loves her family but doesn't have the same faith as they do. I would recommend this book to people that want to broaden there view and see how other people's lives are lived. To find similarities and difference between themselves and Tara.

Tara's view of her family changes throughout the book. In the beginning, she follows everything and now she sees what is wrong with her family: "What was needed was a revolution, a reversal of the ancient, brittle roles we'd been playing out since my childhood" (Westover 263-264).

I wonder if their family is as isolated from the government as her father believes because why would they have tax returns?: "I told Mother one of my fake stories about BYU needing her tax returns (Westover 205).

A question I had throughout the reading was why the sons don't get corrupted by their father's teachings. When asking to Tara about school Tyler states "It's hard to go when he asks you not to." (Westover 120). Showing he sees how bad a influence their dad is.

Tara compared 6 year old dancers as "tiny harlots" (Westover 79). This comparison shows how much her family has influenced her. Her family preaches about not putting makeup on and not wearing anything revealing.

Tara talks about life after her dad and mom gets married and it sounds like her dad has changed a lot: "The last part sounds like my father, but it is not the father my older brothers remember" (Westover 29). My question is, if has changed so much why hasn't her mother done anything?
