A window for me was when Leslie said that " I'm thr first one in my family to finish high-school snd get my passport"(Avecedo311). I never had to have anything like that and I think it's amazing how she wants to be someone and change her life.

I like how the author uses a comparison of her life to food " my own desires are thickly layered like thr food on my plate"(Avedeo274) using her passions tk explain her life

Im finding a window in this story because I am learning how some people my age are living there lives. Emoni is a single mother a senior in high school and is trying to earn enough money to go on this trip ans find childcare for her baby girl while going on this trip. I've never had to experience something like this. Emoni is super strong, lmatureandIcan seea Mirror in that. "Tryonne we have a kid let's be adults"

When Emoni is in her cooking class chef Aydrn talks about how Chefs cannot mess with the recipe because "someone might be allergic to a ingredient that wasn't listed thar you added in" (Acevdo 168)

Emoni is hanging out with malachi and when he leaves Emoni says "trouble, this boy is pure trouble"(Avecedo168) I like that quote and how you can hear her voice and the tone and the setting.

I re read a lot to recap what I hadn't read in a while but something that stood out to me was " teachers forget I make hard decisions everyday"( Acevedo133). People often forget others grow up and have adult decisions everyday.

Adversity affected how others saw Emoni as the girl who got "knocked up" her freshman year and others see her as just that person. Such as when Emoni explains about how others saw her when she was pregnant: " I learned that once my belly started to show that you can't control how other people look at you"(Acevedo 106)

Emoni is asked 'are you trying to show off" ( Acevedo 96) when in her cooking class and I really liked how the other did this interaction.

Today I learned about teen pregnancy rates and how it relates to the book is thar Emoni is a teen mom. A shocking statement was " birth rates have decreased 72% since 1991" (opa gov)

At the begening of this book I really like when Emoni talks about Emmas name and she says " I wanted to give her the kind of name that doesn't tell you too much before you meet her" (Acevedo 9). I like that she is letting her daughter dictate how people see her and that your name or what yu look like does not dictate who you are.

I went back And re read what I previously read to help me understand the book a little better with a lot of names and places.
