Roxane Gay's narration of her own writing is excellent. Writing into the Wound is a very current and relevant essay.

I like this book and do not agree with the critical commentary I have read that compares it to Orwell. Simply stated, no comparison to 1984 is justified.

Stephen Kastner is 65% done with The Lonely City: Adventures in the Art of Being Alone
The chapter on Andy Warhol makes the entire book worthwhile so far. But it is eclipsed by the next chapter on David Wojnarowicz. Now, I am led to pursue his writings on art and sex.

Learning about Henry Darger's unusual solitude and the work that resulted is fascinating. This book has opened many doors on the obscure and unknown. It is a treasure.

Parable of the Sower is simply excellent, especially the audio version read by Lynne Thigpen. This book, set in 2025 seems a disturbingly accurate prediction.

Once in a great while, there comes a book that seems to possess magical powers. Like the subject explored in this book, my opinion is based on my personal experience. That experience is transforming the way I think about both writing and reading. It was written more than 40 years ago and is typically referenced as a book about reading. But, I believe it is a book intended for writers.
