The main character of the book is Carolina or Caro. Her sister Hannah is a nun at Sister of Grace, but Hannah is coming home and renouncing vows as a sister. But Caro wants nothing to do with her sister because she sees Hannah as a stranger.

Mattie is still sleeping but she can feel a presence in her hospital room. She opens her eyes and it was her dead mom (who tried to kill Mattie). Her mom says she is not Mattie's real mother.

After Mattie woke up in the hospital she saw Dan sleeping in his bloody uniform. She also saw mirror boy sitting on the bed looking at her wondering why he did go throw to the other side.

Mattie woke up all tied up in a chair in the basement of an abandoned building near her foster family home. She can hear her kidnapper moving around the room and she called the name of her kidnapper thinking it's Mr. Olsen. He starts beating for saying a smart remark out of anger.

After Mattie saw Sally, she asked Sally to show her where Sally was. Mattie followed her to one of the abanded houses not very far from Olson's house. Then Mattie feels a hit to the back of the head and passes out.

Mattie is confessed on what to do about Dan and him not fully believing her about seeing ghost. She calls Dan, the call going straight to voicemail and Mattie tells him that they shouldn't hang out anymore. When hung up the call, she sees her sister Sally ghost all tired up Mattie tries to talk to Sally but all she can do is nod.

Mattie learns that she is a Reaper and that can help ghost or dead people move on to heaven and hell. She also learned about the Between a dark place where dark creatures roam around and torture lost souls.

Mattie & Dan made it to the theater to see Dr. Olivet the paranormal researcher, but as he is talking one of his devices started to flicker and Mattie sees a ghost boy that starts to come after her and Dan. As Mattie & Dan start to go to the hallway the ghost starts to choke her.

Mattie wants to leave the rock band tournament and go to the Paranormal investigator show but can hardly walk due to her injured foot. Mattie breaks down and starts crying thinking she lost her boyfriend Jack after the fight with Tommy because he was being rude to her and his girlfriend Meg.

Mattie and Dan break into a dead lady's house to feed Oliver who turns out to be a snake that hasn't eaten in 2 weeks. Mattie sprains her ankle after falling backward back into the basement. They make it out of the house after Dan calls animal contral to get Oliver and the ambulance for Mattie.

I'm still on chapter twelve because I forget to read when I was at homesick.

Mattie showed Office Dan her sketchbook drawing of the ghosts that she's seen. Dan thinks he can use the sketches to find missing people and to start looking for the missing. Mattie agrees to have breakfast at Dan's parent's place, so he can show Mattie the missing person reports he found.

Mattie has just attacked a kid with down syndrome after he touched her hair and scared her after her nightmare. After a girl named Mary started screaming because she's still alive, but somehow Mattie can still see her as a ghost.

Mattie has finally told Office Dan that she can see ghosts. The whole reason she says that Sally isn't a runaway girl from a foster home, but a missing person.

Mattie has been talking to the little ghost boy in the bathroom and all he wanted was to see his mom. Mattie said she couldn't help him get to his mom, he got angry at her for not helping him. Mattie runs out of the bathroom, runs to her room, locks the door, and tried to contact the police.

Mattie is a foster kid who made friends with another foster kid Sally who has gone missing. Mattie was told that Sally went to a party, the same party Mattie was going to. But Sally wasn't invested to the party and Mattie is trying to tell Mrs. Olson that Sally wasn't invested and that they need to call the police.

Baby Hannah was attacked by prairie ants, eating the little baby alive. A demon took over their Ma, Amanda killed her and throw her in the fire. Amanda, Emily, Joanna, and Charles all went back to their cabin in the mountains.

Amanda is trying to hide the fact that she's pregnant from her parent and her siblings. It's a very interesting book to read.
