ok this protagonist is freaky and creepy BUT jesus calvino can write; at least this english translation is so BRILLIANT:

calvino (as translated) has such a colourful way of writing (literally and figuratively). I can’t help but slightly raise an eyebrow at the teasingly sexual/sensual descriptions of the moon(??). it’s supposed to be emotive/vivid, I get that, but this is certainly an interesting way of anthropomorphising non-humans, hm. still an enjoyable read despite the oddness of that. will try to read on that choice of writing

The writing is so brilliant. Reading chapter one from part one, knowing that Peter is self medicating himself to sleep, I assume that the writing is disorienting to create that effect - mirroring his thoughts and how they actually form in his mind. So fascinating.

the episode of eileen finding out simon is seeing someone else… so real and so cleverly written. so much more than meets the eye! the decision to make simon’s character a ‘good’ christian… nailed it.
