Eco is starting Voodoo Libretto: New and Selected Poems
Just the foreword entitled “opening letters II” is captivating, powerful, and unabashedly unapologetic for existence

I hope the book lives up to the tone set

Voodoo Libretto: New and Selected Poems

Eco is starting Just for the Summer (Part of Your World, #3)
This book was chosen expressly to fit the Goodreads challenge of a romance. The genre I have avoided since high school.

And yet, the introduction has me intrigued only because it is from r/AITA.

Eco is starting Adulthood Rites (Xenogenesis, #2)
Only at the end of chapter 2, and already it is a male dominated world. The future of humanity: unhuman men well have no need or want for a family construct. They will always be more females, and they will be stuck raising children alone.

Starting Book 3: Thalia
Note: The third book is named for the muse of idyllic poetry and comedy.

General observation is that those were very violent times; “countries” constantly renamed for kings who consult with oracles for guidance and who seem to have unlimited monetary resources. Taxes and slavery for the rest. Although I have learned why the Egyptians do not consider themselves African.

20/2/23: Finished Book 1: Clio
This has taken me down a rabbit hole of world atlases and trying to fit then city/state with today’s city/countries. The confusing part is keeping track of the place when called several different names based on ruler. Akin to changing the state name of Virginia based on who is Governor and city names on who is mayor.

Eco is finished with Poet Warrior
Even though I have only completed Part 1 of this book, what I know for sure is it is a 5. I have already highlighted sixteen passages that resonate with my thoughts and experiences.

I am listening to this music as I read: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vQ7tWK9...

Eco is starting 1Q84 #1-2 (1Q84, #1-2)
I am ~110 pages until the end and I cannot bring myself to finish this monstrosity. I have slogged in hope. I have set it down to regain focus although finishing 15+ books in the break should have been an indication). Chapter 14 of Book 2 was the big nope for me. Not sure how that act could be called “purification.”

Reading Don Quijote in Spanish with the goal to improve my Spanish comprehension. Currently reading one chapter a week which means it would take ~74 weeks to complete. My goal is one year to finish as I anticipate my reading comprehension to increase over time.

Fascinating facts and beautiful pictures.
I am savoring this book and only reading during breakfast.
Plan to use it next year in class to introduce a mathematician each block.

Making slow progress. I know it is only one man's view for well-known sf works, but does he enjoy anything?

Pace is slow as I need to pull out the proverbially dictionary or google. Still unsure of "cis-transcendental sector of his audience" as does not relate to gender issues (p. 59).
