N. K. Jemisin is the epitome of why i don't think books should have introductions. Had I not read the first book and enjoyed it, I would have tossed this book aside after getting one paragraph into the introduction. I plan on taking a break before I start the story properly because it has made me in a mood where I would start disliking characters instantly.

I am getting seriously annoyed about these slight jibes against men. I dealt with them in the first two books but this is really starting to get annoying.

Latinx is not a word

In the middle of chapter on tannins, the author goes off on a slavery and race rant. Had this linked more into the topic rather than the tangential relation to the Declaration of Independence I would have been less annoyed and taken out of the piece.

I picked up this book as a chemistry teacher and I am only about a tenth of my way through the book and already there are some issues cropping up for me. The first is the fact that he has not put units on the temperatures give instead just saying degrees. As he is American, I have assumed that he is using Fahrenheit rather than Celsius or Kelvin.
