This book is one I pick up and read in chunks, though I’m working through it tonight. It’s dark and eerie, slow to an extent - but it’s writing style is beautiful and the messages are crafted interestingly. I think I’ve reached the make or break point! I wish the main characters were more open by this point, but I do care for them! The sense of unease and fear in every page remains unmatched.

The tone of this book; sad, dark, eerie, seeps so heavily through the pages and up your arms while you’re reading it. It’s chilling and unsettling and leaves every paragraph full of suspense or unease. I love Effy so far, though I wish her character had a little *more*. I’ve no idea what’s going to unfold but I’m really looking forward to seeing.

The characterisations are bliss. I am so obsessed with the way Emily Henry develops her characters - the friend group functions excellently and I’m so so obsessed and drawn into the romance

DNF.

Feeling skeptical so far. I want to enjoy, but I gotta admit that the immediate spam of fat-shaming jokes, objectification (in form of an ‘insufferable dude bro friend that Colin doesn’t really like’) and odd Gracie immaturity isn’t striking me. Not a DNF yet, but I’m a little worried!

It’s all going downhill for me I fear. Lana is sadly growing more immature and Seth more inconsiderate. I’m rooting for Lana’s growth but I don’t know, I can’t say I’m rooting for them together. It gives less of a charming romance and more of a manic woman in crisis + a man whose any personality from the start is dwindling rapidly.

I’m really enjoying it so far! It’s easy to read. The characters sadly are someone 1-dimensional and I don’t feel as connected to Lana as I wish I did - her mummy issues would mean more to me if there were flashbacks or anything like that but sadly there aren’t - a lot of the ‘characterisation’ feels like a slight afterthought. But it’s a fun & easy one to read.
