I was right. And I'm not happy about being tricked. I've spent half the book not swooning over this man because he was written to be like a jerk. Rats.

Mayhap Maggie is an unreliable narrator? We're meant to hate Ethan from the get-go, but maybe because we only get him through her prejudice because SHE doesn't like him.

Sometimes enemies-to-lovers works. Sometimes the love interest is just such a jerk. This started off immediately like the latter. I'm not sure how getting to England suddenly changes Maggie's opinion of him....🙄 Is he some wounded, misunderstood bad boy softie?

Getting through it, but the detailed in the prose get repetitive. We've known for X many pages who a person is, but they're redefined (and mentioned using their whole name and title) every time they're brought up. Or objects. Or Jessica's home address. The author doesn't assume smart readers that track these details and don't need constant reminders. Oh, and Harry's "little lady" comment is so overused, I'm sick.

2 minutes into the audiobook.

The narrator is not great. Very little differentiation in character voices. The men are fairly monotonous.
But what in the woke culture is correcting Seth from "weather man" to "weather person"?? Who's to say the local forecaster ISN'T a weather man? Wouldn't you know, Jessica? Why??

I'm not sure I'll get through this one. Was excited for a seasonal read.

Ugh I hate cheating of any kind. It's one thing to realize you're actually into somebody else and got with the current significant other for convenience or other wrong reasons...and then to break it off...but it's another to actually kiss the new love interest first 🙄 I'm over that trope.

I appreciate that a lot of memoirs are sensitive to not discuss the intimate details of other people's struggles or daily life as much as possible. Not sure why we needed a detour into Renner's personal take on his nephew, including some mental health concerns. 🙄 Didn't need that.

Can't wait to hear about his recovery...but we're 2 hours into the audiobook, and there's a lot of repetition in the narration. I understand some of it structurally aligns with the events, but an incident that took 45 minutes has been drug out for longer in the read time because of all the repetition.

Finished Stacks of Trouble. 2.5 stars. I liked the setup, I thought the mystery was interesting, the detective cat was cute, even if there was a lot of coincidence and some odd logic errors. But the biggest problem was the unconvincing motive. I never really did understand it by the end, which made the killer not very believable. Too bad, because the pacing worked well, if only the logic was connected better.
