“ahegao, or, the ballad of sexual repression” was a bomb that you patiently sit and watch as it ticks down and down and down and then you’re still surprised when it blows your head clean off. (kate is this the one that we did a dramatic reading from at brunch?)

this series is so excellent it’s like “hope you aren’t tired of hearing stories of cool dykes because here’s another one!”

“pics”—ok, the first story gave me psychic damage, but this is where the secondhand embarrassment really kicked in. i had to engage in mindful breathing, affirmations, etc. to get through it. really struck by the lack of human connection the first two protagonists experience, instead feeding their desire to control others and the world.

“the feminist”—chilling. i took psychic damage. reminded me of a guy i went to school with who was a gender studies major and was also banned from a dorm because he was harassing a girl who lived there. what are we to do about these men?

“the obvious monsters were the police and the billionaires”

i still cannot tell how much distance there is between the characters and the writer, but she’s having two main characters say stuff like “let👏 women 👏 be 👏 feminine 👏” and “there’s NO femme lesbian representation in media” WHILE ALSO CONSTANTLY REFERENCING THE L WORD? i do kinda feel like i’m going crazy and am starting to feel like that wasn’t Dorn’s intention.

young blue-haired non-binary character with pronouns who says outright that older lesbians are unrelatable TERFs… groundbreaking stuff

there's no doubt that this protagonist is Annoying. she bothers me for all the reasons that "Girls Can Kiss Now" bothered me: wealthy white cis femme4femme lesbian with little thought or care toward other perspectives on lesbianism. and i think it's safe to assume that this character is written this way purposefully! but i feel like i'm still waiting for a hint of weight and meat and meaning here.

cannot believe there is an hour left of this. i’m enjoying it but WHAT ELSE IS GOING TO HAPPEN!!!!!

i've listened to 3 hours of this book and i have 7 left and i'm like... so many things have already happened! what else is going to happen??!? part of me feels exhausted by this protagonist but i'm also desperate to keep going.

this is still bad but at least there’s some nice armpit eroticism !

i would DNF if i weren't reading this for book club. it's been a minute since i read a novel that leaves so little space for imagination and interpretation! really really frustrating to read especially since this could have been so fun and campy!

i went into this with very low expectations and im already slightly pissed off by a missing oxford comma on page 2
