I decided to read this after browsing all of the one-star reviews of the book on Amazon, all of which were a variation of "This book says I'm a fascist because I voted for Trump!" and "Liberals are the real fascists!" Another ringing endorsement from stupid people.

I read this almost 40 years ago as a child. I remember very little other than that it was one of the few straight sci-fi novels that stuck with me. Looking forward to revisiting this now.

Halfway through and ready to drop this. Another book that overexplains a simple concept to death. The book should be called Variables instead, as all it really has to say is that humans make errors in judgements and predictions (due to unexplored variables), and that algorithms are somewhat more successful (due to increased inclusion of variables), and completely ignores individuals as a an unknowable variable.
