Why would someone write extreme details about what they’re buying from the grocery in a page and a half?

I’m currently reading this book during my stay at the hospital with my grandma, it provides me with everything I need, it calms me down, it entertains me, Vera is everything a person needs, i enjoyed reading about the warm environment she created, how she brought people closer, its my kind of book tbh, my comfort book, the one when things go bad I wd go and read it and feel better again, I love every single detail
