I suggest you read these books in his order: The Ascended, Riftborne & Duskborne. See my review here or on Amazon of Riftborne for my reasoning. I would have had more understanding of the extensive, complicated world-buikding if I had read them in this order.

If I can convince you if one things it will be to read the books in the following order: The Ascended, Riftborne & Duskborne. The Ascended is supposed to be a duology and there's supposed to be at least one more book

I don't give many five star reviews but I do believe this will be one. It has some flaws, but the world building, political system, magic and well-drawn characters make up for easily overlooked mistakes.
