Dude I love the way he rambles. Idk why I love it when books are from the pov of some guy that just rambles. It feels like someone’s talking to me or something. The way he talks about his siblings too just about kills me. He loves them so much.

I don’t agree with Batman’s take on Billy’s gift of widows was completely unearned. To stand the test of time in a world unresponsive to goodness, to follow a moral compass you dug for within yourself to stay true and good alone is pretty remarkable. Though I do get what Batman’s saying. Guess there’s a tradeoff. After all it is because of both of their losses they find family and community in spite of it.

“Perhaps this why the Wizard chose a boy when he came to Batson. Children are easier to mold, quicker to learn, and easier to put in a path from which they won’t deviate.”

Like some type of child soldier or something. Wizard was like some army recruiter

“Come to bed with me,” she says.
And because I don’t know what else to do, I go.

Jesus that’s so sad. Lori raves about the men who only want to undress her and ravage her while she does the same, cornering this kid with her insatiable libido. Just sick.

Was literally considering giving this book 2 stars for the lack of character exploration, pacing, and glossing over scenes. But this battle is literally tough as hell. Like thank you for bringing Will and Horace back together, their chemistry is so fun. I swear these series would be so much better if the books were longer

These books waste so much time reiterating character trait/attributes over and over again. Yes, I know the Skandins are simple minded and lack the desire to learn strategy. You don’t need to repeat it for the upteenth time. I want to focus back on Will’s friendship with Evenlyn and Horace. Hell the only reason why Horace came on this mission was for Will and we have yet to see an actual reunion between the two

Will and Evenlyn’s escape literally took up an entire book LAST BOOK and now their presence in the place they escaped from is treated like nothing. No potential PTSD from Will? Considering he doesn’t remember anything because of the warmweed, no flashbacks? No Slaves in the last book recognizing them? They escaped from THE Oberjarl’s fortress, you’d think they’d be treated as a bigger deal no?

I don’t understand Halt’s idea for the battle position. Why would he give the Temujai the idea that the Skandians are smarter than they are? Wouldn’t that ruin the element of surprise they have over them?

Bro we get it with the characterizations. Horace is big and slow; Halt is snarky and old with sass we get it. You don’t have to keep reminding me how simple minded Horace is damn. 2 Dimensional much?

Like I want to see more of Owen and Siobhan’s friendship. The author does a lot more of telling than showing in this book and it kinda sucks, considering the idea of the book is really good but the execution is kinda eh. I do really like Hannah and Lottie though

It’s good but it feels so empty. Like someone is giving me a summary of a book rather than me reading it myself. Which ig is the point considering this is Siobhan recounting the story of Owen (as the title says), but idk. Where’s the drama, the intrigue or sm. I like how it rewrites history to make it make sense in a dragon dominated world but idk it’s kinda bland.

Having Hollister being skinned alive feels so unnaturally dark for a book like this. Like so out of place it’s bad. Like the author wanted to throw in that extra edge to prove how dark it is or sm idk I’m so tired of this book I just want it to be over

So desperate for attention that he can’t stand his brother being mad at him for five seconds even though he deserves it that he’s dragging along a girl into a mess that he started just so he doesn’t have to feel awkward around Thomas. I’m not sure if the author meant to make Paul this much of an asshole on purpose or believes I am genuinely supposed to root for him.

This entire book is just watching this whiny selfish prick be a terrible friend, making everything about himself, and pining after a girl he just met. Thomas is saving his life getting out of London and the only thing he has to think about is Verity. Not a thank you or care to the man he called his brother. God I hate him.

God and Paul pmo. So haughty and mighty in the way he speaks of God yet is like the hugest asshole ever. And not even in like a narrative sense of, “he’s a hypocrite it’s what makes his character slightly hate-able and realistic,” but it’s like the author just tried to cram a bunch of different character traits they liked into a character without giving it nuance

I’m confused on the class of this world. Like why does Paul, this world’s equivalent to a fashion designer/engineer want to dabble in politics. With people saying that only the wealthy can practice cloth magic it seems like an allegory for art school or majoring in something you love but doesn’t pay the bills, how is that related to wanting to be a Mage? A major political figure?
