How horses are spoken of in this book is actually so beautiful you can feel the love and respect these people have for them. It makes me wonder if they’re meant to be an innuendo for something else or if McCarthy is just really driving home his love for horses. Maybe I’m reading too hard into this I mean the book is literally called “All The Pretty Horses” lolol

I get this is like a book for little kids, but like Samatha spent the whole lot of these practices super involved with training these kids. Like dribbling and defending and all that. How does a little joy from celebrating a victory viciously tweak her leg? And not like dribbling the ball and coaching and all that

I used to mull over the same thoughts of the afterlife when I was younger and came to the same conclusion as Cory lol I wonder if all kids who grew up in faith came to the same conclusions?

They soon fear the testing of Cory’s faith than understand the mourning of a boy who just lost his best friend

I love the pacing of this book so much more than the first one

They’re still alive despite everything as they always had even before man.

The man is the boy’s world as the boy is the man’s bro oh my god why

Makes me sad that the boy has no memory/life before the world started to end. When the man dreams it’s of memories of a beautiful past where the world was good. But for the boy? It’s just memories of what he has lived and none of it has been good. All the man dreams about is a life he can never return to because he’s about to die. While the boy dreams about the now he’s been through because he’ll live

Contrast with his quote earlier about if he could shoot his son

The man, who grew up in the world before, tries to teach the boy old stories of goodness and right. I love this so much. How the man refuses to let the world change him for the sake of his boy. His outbursts in the movie are understandable but they don’t reflect his true nature in the book
