Robin keeps giving second chances to Murphy, even though he doesn't deserve them and has red flags all over. This is the exact copy of what happened with her ex-husband, Robert Galbraith doesn't even disguise it. Absolutely ridiculous. Strike, meanwhile, keeps digging a hole with what he Bijou to say. The case a mess, I lost track of who's who but it doesn't matter, it's a red herring. The miss the last 2 books!

It's disappointing seeing Robin reverting back to a victim after her development in the last two books. Both in her job (where, despite being a partner, can't put Kim in her place) and at home (Murphy's story was predictable but more disappointing was her acting exactly the same as when she was with her ex-husband). Strike and Robin need better HR. I believe Kim is lying about her ex and was setting up Strike.

Thoughts so far: The silver shop seems to be a mafia front. The new subcontractor seems to be working for a rival agency in secret and will try to incriminate Strike. His gift to Robin was very sweet but he's acting in a creepy way, that's unlike him. Midge and Barclay barely appear and are also acting strange. Is the ending everyone turning against Strike? Is the mention of his father a parallel to Bijou appearance?

Not enjoying this so far. The characters seem odd, their interactions disconnected (not just Strike and Robin but also everyone at the office) and some parts just seem out of character. There's too much talk on how Strike is a player (which continues to make no sense for a scruffy looking, one leg man) and the new office hire is too loud and too obvious. I'm already anticipating her being sacked.
