Bought myself this pocket New Testament (Douay-Rheims revision) again after gifting my first copy to someone late last year. So easy to carry around that I wish to treat it as I did with my first copy; that is, to read it in the in between moments of life where the black screen in our pockets most tempts to devour us. Instead of being consumed, I hope to more readily eat of my daily bread.

And so begins a deeper journey into the ancients for me. (Lattimore translation)

So far, the poetry is fantastic, entertaining, and real. But I must say this has been talked up so much as controversial and scandalous that I expected some appalling revelations that I have not yet encountered. Ovid is clearly a prophetic poet and as lover of Shakespeare one can’t help but enjoy his passion for love.

Everything before this has been mere preparation.
