Really interesting read so far- learned all about small form dissent and civil disobedience. This dissent comes in the shape of uncovering historical events that narratives that the CCP tries to reshape through pressure on academia, red tourism, and in times of unrest: suppression.

Let’s see what else Ian Johnson brings to the table :)

The lecture on the spanish civil war was hard to get through, but so far so good

Finally working through the epilogues, will I finish it within the year or not? Lets see lol.

Fun facts but lots of translation issues. Prefaced with “numbers can be subjective and misleading”- and proceeds to evaluate countries based on a small range of metrics.

Finally picking up the pace and getting into it lol, despite the slow progress a great read though.

I remember reading a top review saying something like “I dragged this ridiculously heavy book around for three months as if I’m trying to show off” and told myself it wouldn’t be me. It is me :,)

Very enjoyable so far- but not gonna lie, it’s gonna be a long read & progress is slow lol
