this is exactly what i needed rn

they are insufferable but i adore them
it’s interesting to think that F hates this book so much that he wished to disregard it as part of his oeuvre

i kept seeing this and found it confusing, but it all makes sense now
i really needed to read this right now

i felt stuck on this for a while in december, i think i listened to it too much in one day and i got sick of evelyn who, let’s be honest, is a real asshole. that made it hard to empathize with her the way it seems we’re supposed to, but this is probably also because she is the one telling her story
anyways, getting back into it now and i’m enjoying it more. we’ll see !

also emily wilson is immensely talented, i love her translation!

kept getting stuck on the suuuper long intro but once i got through that, the song itself is gripping and adventurous ! so cool to finally be reading the whole odyssey rather than only hearing the myths in parts

slow start because some french elements don’t feel very believable
par exemple, je ne surnommerai jamais un mec qui s’appelle Gaetan « Gaet » ou alors « the nightengale » ne serait JAMAIS choisit comme code name pour une personne qui s’appelle Rossignol, ça les mettrai trop en danger et ce ne serait pas un bon nom de code mdr
mais apart from that the story feels quite real and i am completely drawn in

i stopped reading this for a few weeks because it actually is too awful to read in one go

just picked it up for 3 pages and got to the title dropping « you have to show a little life »
this is absolutely the worst meaning she could have given to the title. i was not expecting that at all, i thought it was more along the lines of we follow his life throughout the book but, no, gosh
i hate it

so many good books out there and what am i doing reading Colleen Hoover again you may ask? (especially after her last one made me swear off of ALL her other books lol)
well a little life is TOO SAD and i need something else to feel better, so here we go
also the movie is coming out and i wanted to go through the book first :)
(so far not so bad, actually seems like an okay book with some deep themes)

it’s okay to give your characters trauma, i get it, it builds towards development or whatever
but it is NOT okay to give your characters trauma so severe that it will traumatise trauma

i don’t know who would enjoy reading this yet alone writing this? really? this book has such a big fandom how
there better be something in the second half that convinces me

another classic absurd tale that presents itself as lighthearted but intricately makes you evaluate your own life, thoughts and morals
today’s subject is lying to deceive because you’re too cowardly to casually reject someone (and they become your stalker whoops)

also it’s not as tragic as people make it out to be
right now it’s perfectly fine

i can’t seem to put it down

this book has the capacity to make me so sad and then so so happy in the span of 50 pages

tried the audiobook on the last chapter and was pretty nice

the delivery of major plots points could use some work, this is the book equivalent of those instagram storytime posts, where each chapter ends in an increasingly concerning dun dun dun
still, im impressed that freida mcfadden writes these as a side gig from her job as a surgeon

I’m enjoying J and W as characters, as well as the friendship between them, unsure about M or JB yet (not a fan but hoping that will change)
getting scared though because i know this book is supposed to be rough and i can see a few different paths it could take in that direction…
also sue me but Jude looks like Jude Law in my mind

pretty good so far, this is very well written and i like the maze-like switch of povs between past and present

finally reading funny story bcus it’s my bday and yay
i already know im gonna love love this book

ohhhh this is so good

I know this is a book you are supposed to read multiple times in your life, and you will take away something different from it each time.
Over the last two years I have started it again a few times, every time re-reading the first few letters and proceeding to put it down until the next time.

FINALLY after so many chapters of this poor boy taking on so much shit, there finally is a little moment of hope
first few pages where i’ve felt happy reading this book, as opposed to sad and depressed lol
please please can theo stay with hobbie and can things start to look a little better please
also can he drop boris (sorry but not sorry)
