Not a super big fan of this book but perhaps it’s just because I prefer history over philosophical or theological speculation

I’m reading it all out of order but I have finished the Meccan Suras and am starting on the Medinan

Very helpful, I’d say so far this is as good or better than an actual New Testament survey class. It’s very much like an in depth, grown up version of those “Eyewitness” books that they had in school libraries in the early 2000s. I feel as much joy reading this as I did those.

This book is upsetting me currently. First of all, cut to the chase. There’s no need to ramble and ramble and ramble. Secondly, I’m amazed at how much is said without explaining anything. For a book about Christian theology, there is little to no explanation of WHY certain doctrines are held, only who believes what and who disagrees with who. It’s altogether unhelpful.
