If one can get past the over-exaggeration & cringey inner dialogue present allover the book, but especially in the first 30%, one can find this enjoyable in the way that spaceverse fluff is.

It would seem like this is a winner!
I have a rule about book slumps- When they last longer than 2 weeks - I select a book whose cover & name I like, from a fairly popular book list but whose author I've never read.
& if I don't dnf till 23%- then I have to take it all the way to a 100%.

Shaping up into what could be a very interesting plot if the hunt is handled right. Since the author has missed the mark on the investigative parts before, I'm hoping it turns out better than expected. The dynamics of interpersonal relationships b/w Jacky & her family, the Everson pack are always an interesting read though.

I really like the premise. I like the idea of the Emperor's voice. I like the amazing opportunity that has come the MC-narrator's way.I like that she wants it. I hate her voice from the future that keeps on doing the whole-"in hindsight.." thing. Except that, the plot shows tremendous promise.
