What to do when none of the books you've started reflects your mood anymore? a) Suck it up and finish them anyway; b) Start yet another one; c) Agonize over the situation by crying in the corner of the room and end up reading nothing at all. Guilty as charged.

I am confused about the opinion of Darwin on Galton: “Darwin read the study, but he was not particularly convinced, damning his cousin with faint praise.” However, in the actual letter Darwin seems to praise him: “I do not think I ever in all my life read anything more interesting and original--and how well and clearly you put every point!” (Unless it’s the British way of telling you to f*ck off in a courteous way.)

Bought it by accident, as I thought it was the chosen book for the next meeting of the bookclub I’m part of. In fact, it was another book by the same author. Oh well, I guess now I’m reading this one, as well.

First book* I'm trying to read in French. One evening and I'm on page 20. Oh well... wish me luck with this one.

* To be completely honest, not the first book in French I'm *trying* to read, but the first I'm actually determined to finish.

This book was recommended to me by the former US ambassador in Switzerland, Suzi LeVine. I can't but skip everything in my pipeline of books when someone as awesome as her recommends a book. Hope it will prove to be as inspiring as her!

As if I needed more reasons to want to hide under a rock and... just stay there.

Don't know what to think about the last part of the chapter on imperialism. Maybe a year ago I would've been tempted to also think that the world is heading towards a sort of "global empire", but these days more and more politicians seem to call for a strong nationalism, with increasingly more people following them. Or maybe I'm just thinking on a small scale.

Not a good idea to read this while I'm writing applications and have to tell universities just how smart I am. But good idea to read this during elections.
